Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
Diversity Statement
Camden Catholic High School respects, understands and celebrates God’s gift of diversity within our school community. This responsibility to foster a community of inclusion is based on sacred scripture and sacred tradition, that is, the teachings of the Catholic Church. We believe that every member of our school community is responsible for promoting this understanding of unity through diversity.
Advisory Committee & Student Groups
The CCHS Diversity Advisory Committee is a subgroup of the Board of Trustees. This group will be expanded to include alumni and current and past parents of CCHS students. This group will be an integral part of our ongoing cultural competency awareness plans and goals.
Saint Martin De Porres Society is Camden Catholic’s diversity student group. The SMPS mission is to encourage the well-being of all students and fosters collaborative learning about many cultures in concert with our curriculum and faith-based education. SMPS hosts events, discussions and fundraisers to help to educate and celebrate our vastly diverse student body.
Commitment & Plans
The Camden Catholic Administration and Board of Trustees commits to the following action steps to ensure continued growth, discussion and understanding of cultural diversity, both in our community and worldwide:
Develop a cultural competency component to our Freshmen orientation days
Develop ongoing cultural competency formation for our student body, faculty, staff, administration and Board of Trustees that are appropriate for each constituency
Continue to develop and form a meaningful and ongoing relationship with T.H.E. Council (Together Honoring Everyone) in order to seek student input in our efforts of cultural competency
Dedicate hard and personnel resources to ongoing awareness of diversity and inclusion from a Catholic-Christian foundation
Develop a strategy for implementation and ongoing review of cultural competency within our various academic departments to be integrated into our curriculum
Ensure that an appreciation for the diversity of the human family as given by God and leading to unity in His name is integrated into the activities of our Campus Ministry (retreats, service, prayer experiences, etc.)
Establish an ongoing advisory committee populated by various constituencies of our school to be an integral part of our ongoing cultural competency awareness
Ensure that all of our marketing and enrollment efforts reflect the diversity of our school community
Ensure that our advancement and public relations/communications office represent the diversity that exists within the CCHS community via social media, etc.
Strive to seek diversity of minority personnel in our hiring of teachers, staff and administration
Ensure that cultural competency is addressed as a part of our current strategic planning process
